With the right design touch, goth can go smoking hot. Madonna proved it in her "Like a Prayer" video (what's fiercer than blood, fire and a black negligee?), and these days, the trappings of goth-chic show up everywhere from emo concerts to Parisian runways. Back in 2001, jewelry designer Michael Spirito hooked celebs and style junkies on Exhibitionist NYC, his high-end line with a sense of humor. The collection draws on the inevitable religious iconography crucifix pendants dangle from crossed pirate swords, and delicate curved crosses look almost like tree branches, as well as skull, pearl and crown themes. Though it's, er, dominated by a dark, spiky S&M vibe, the ballsy collection knows how to have fun-and can at times even play adorable. From mini skull rings with bejeweled eyes (among the line's biggest-and cutest-sellers) to onyx spears, angel-wing pendants and dramatic marquis gems in ornate medieval settings, the line derives its eccentric grace from clean silhouettes, beautiful gems and glittering finishes. Check out the website to shop select pieces and browse Spirito's signature line of extravagant multistrand stunners in dramatic hues.

If you only have room for one
shadow compact to carry around, pick a combo of neutrals that will compliment
any outfit. I'll only wear shadows for night outings, but one of my favorites
is Beauty Addicts' ExpressEYES ($35). The brand is based on making different
"moods" or looks with each line of their products. The Express line is their
'natural/casual' mix of matte and shimmer basics for the finishing touch on
your day-to-night transition.
I first took this out for a
test drive one night when a couple friends and I decided to go to a concert
downtown. I used a little of the lighter cream shade as a base and used the
chocolate brown color to contour. I smudged a little of
EffortlessEYES liner in Glow (navy blue) and went on my way. I came back
expecting massive creases after squeezing my way through the crowd all night,
but I actually thought the shadow looked better as the evening went on! Smudges
were minimal but the rich colors were glowing. Not bad, especially if you
consider it evens out to a little less than $9 a shadow. Use the cream or pink shades for day, and amp
it up with smokey browns for night.
Do you carry your eyeshadow
with you?
What are your go-to colors?

One of the Washington, DC area's most popular and trend-defining shops, We One You Two has just gone virtual. Thank goodness, since it's the only spot we've find on the web that stocks established, yet not overly exposed lines like Lorick https://www.weoneyoutwo.com/store/m-41-lorick.aspx (you'll recognize these looks from Gossip Girl), Chloe and Reese and Beirn bags. Among our picks: a Balenciaga-inspired Priestess Bo Dress for a dash of super hero chic; .a Lauren Moshi t-shirt t-shirt with a hot pink hippie chick; and a fallon crest cuff that is pure prep school punk.

I'm an overplanner. In
typical Capricorn style, I make lists for every mall outing, plan birthday
gifts months in advance, organize and reorganize my bills to make sure
everything is in line. This also makes me uncomfortable with change, which
explains why I've also had the same hairstyle since I was 12 - long and
layered. My friends have been begging me to cut it short; while their version
of this is ear-length, mine is closer to elbow-length.
I finally decided to
start small and get bangs. I began scouring website and magazines for celeb
photos of the bangs I wanted. I even used MC's
website virtual
hair salon feature, where you can upload your picture and try different
styles to see how you would look. After a few weeks, I decided I'd get those
great swooping bangs Keira Knightley sports - only it wasn't so great. I could
never style them right and ended up pinning them to the side all the time. I
didn't look different at all.
A month later, I went to
the salon for my usual trim. When the hairdresser asked me, "So what are we
doing today?" I looked in the mirror, and said, "I want bangs. Straight
across." I was biting my lip as she was preparing to cut a big chunk of my
hair. But after it was all done, I loved it! I finally looked 'different' and
my friends loved the change. It's crazy how something so small can feel so
liberating. I guess spontaneity can be good - and I won't be that afraid to try
something new...maybe even a shorter style.
How do you feel after a
new hairstyle? Do you plan it out, or is it always spontaneous?

I'm one of those people
who has to carry my life around with me in my bag -- iPod, sunglasses, three
packs of gum, magazine, tissues, flyers, Advil...to name a few. It's only natural
that I lug my big makeup bag with me everywhere too (it seriously has to weigh
5 lbs on its own). Not that I wear a lot of makeup everyday, but you never know
when you're plans get suddenly rearranged after work and you find yourself
trekking down to Brooklyn for a show.
I'm reforming my ways,
especially for times when that big hobo bag just doesn't go with a cute outfit
for a date. When I have to downgrade on space by switching to my clutch, it
breaks my heart to have to sort through products and just pick out the bare
essentials. After doing this countless times though, I realized most of the makeup
is just my safety blanket - I don't need it, but it feels good to know that
it's there. I finally found that I probably reapply only once after dinner, and
have come up with my 3 products must-haves: TheBalm concealer for quick touch
ups, a nude gloss (like Maybelline Lip Polish in Nude Flash), and Boscia Rose
Blotting Linens which helps to absorb oil and shine. In a weird way, knowing
that I don't have as many things to fiddle with in my bag helps me enjoy my
night more.
What are your beauty
staples for a date?

When I was 10-years-old,
I took my first trip to a flea market. I had never been to one before and was
fascinated by the variety of goods that were being sold - books, furniture,
even little hamsters. I came across a table with buckets of unopened makeup,
for a price that was within the budget of the 5th grader I was at
the time. I bought three lip balms and was totally elated. One of them was Avon Dew Kiss Lip Dew, a moisturizing lip balm that had a light baby
powder scent. I wore it all the time, treating my lips to its creamy texture
and barely-there pink tint. When it ran out though, I scrambled everywhere to
find it. With no Internet access like we have today, and it not being available
at drugstores, I let go and moved on.
Then a month ago, I was
talking to one of my guy friends, and being the makeup freak I am, I started to
explain to him the different kinds of lip gloss and balms (don't ask). When we
got onto the subject of flavored ones, I instantly remembered my beloved Lip
Dew. I quickly did a Google search, not remembering the brand but hoping
something would pop up, and there it was! On Avon's website and only .99 cents!
I ordered only two, being cautious that it might be a different formulation, or
perhaps I wouldn't care for it as much now as I had in my young mind. I was
excited to find it was the exact same product I fell in love with 14 years ago.
The same scent and texture made me reminisce to my middle school days. I even
got my best friend hooked on it now!
Have you ever re-visited
a beauty product you fell in love with years ago?
Did you still feel the same
about it as you did back then?

Applying makeup for me is
de-stressing. Removing it, though, is something I'm way too lazy about. I don't
like doing it last thing before bed - splashing water on my face just makes me
'wake up' again. So I'm happy to say I've finally found the perfect solution:
cleansing towelettes. The one I've been particularly using is Pond's Clean
Sweep Micro Dermabrasion Wet Cleansing Towelettes ($5.99) with cucumber
extracts.
They're great for me
since all you do is take one towelette, use the exfoliating side with
microbeads to loosen dirt and remove dead skin cells and then turn it over to
the smooth side for extra cleaning. You don't even need to wet it (it's
pre-moistened). Just use it and toss it. It does such a great job, and even
works to remove my waterproof mascara. Plus, no breakouts means it's working. I
still use my regular liquid cleanser in the morning, but these have made my
pre-bed time beauty regimen 10 times faster. It fits in my purse when I'm on
the go or traveling. I plan on always keeping a stash with me from here on out!
Do you have any similar
products that have made the facial cleansing process easier and/or faster?

Fitness trainer-turned-retail entrepreneur Angela Lapi puts a spunky spin on fashion favorites in her online boutique, Angela’s Runway. The site’s stock—including well-loved brands like Velvet and Joie, plus niche lines like Old Gringo Boots and Kippy’s Belts - is edited for versatility and comfort. The boutique’s mission is to carry women from Starbucks runs post-early-morning treadmill routines to late-night martinis with minimal effort, amping up sex appeal without homogenizing personal style. For girlie girls, black-and-gold-sequined slipdresses and coral cashmere tunics are must-haves all year-round; for laid-back chicas, teal python cowboy boots and Antik Denim’s skinny cords provide the perfect gear for a shopping adventure; and loads of posh tracksuits appeal to ladies who lounge. Studded leather, crystal embellishments, a hell of a lot of tropical colors, and soft, body-loving designs are inspired by the bold Florida gals who pack the beaches and bars of West Palm Beach, where the site is based. Nevertheless, Angela’s Runway is a hit with all types of women on all types of budgets: Though the prices can get up there (particularly on heels and the embellished pieces), the Clearance Corner offers amazing deals on labels you love, from Michael Stars to Earnest Sewn.
