Found a new book about strength training.
"Strength Training For Triathletes" by Patrick Hagerman. Although the title says it's for triathletes, I've found this book to be a great reference tool for not just triathletes but athletes in general looking to get stronger.

I know it's November.
But it's flip flop wearing season somewhere and it doesn't even have to be 5:00 to wear them.
Want the coolest flip flops ever?
Have big feet and think they're only for the averaged sized woman?
Think again.

You know I felt a little weird about the last entry. But seeing sprinklez4me's response I now know I am not alone.
I have to think that it's just a space issue and some women are more aware than others. Perhaps a form of class etiquette? But since I have very little class....experience maybe I'm wrong.
I"ve looked for some etiquette rules and was able to find some but they don't really touch on the issues at hand.
Yes, carry a towel but can you towel snap the woman next to you when she gets too close?
Yes, bring a water bottle. Can you then squirt her?
Blah, blah, blah.....

Yes I know I believe I've said to try different things. Different exercises. Different sports.
Well I did this past week and although it doesn't matter to say exactly what I tried - it was horrible.
Horrible.
But I did try....uh it was horrible. All 50 some minutes of it.

It's a digital transmitter and watch system that calculates calories, distance, steps and pace.
This is a new product from TIMEX that I think is just absolutely great. Absolutely ANY woman can use this watch. Someone just curious about fitness to a hard core athlete. And with the holidays right around the corner this gadget makes for a great stocking stuffer that can't go wrong.

Isn't it weird that the one area (and everyone has at least one area - if you don't, well - no way. everyone has one area) you really really need to work on, is the area or exercise you adamantly can't stand doing?
I thought it was just me but I have people all the time asking me for workout and training advice and the other day a woman was telling me how she loves to work out. She was probably in her late thirties to early forties and was in great shape. Tall. Healthy. And the first thing she told me was how she will do ANYTHING but sit-ups. Can't stand them and went on to say it was her stomach that needs the most work.
I completely agreed with her. I can not stand doing sit-ups either and I always save them for the end, build them up to be this huge ordeal and usually end up cutting the sets or reps short. Love the abdominal's. Sit-ups: not so much.

I was on the train the other day headed upstate and noticed a group of women jump roping on an abandoned basketball court in some park along the tracks.
I remember seeing stuff like this back in Phoenix too.
A group of mom's getting together at a public park in order to run thru some mommy and me exercises sans gym.....and gym expenses.
Now I know there are social running groups that meet, and friends who cycle or even play tennis together, BUT........

He claimed it had the most alcohol vs least carbs.
Not so.

Picked up some new reads this weekend. One of which was The Jungle Effect.
Daphne Miller has seen countless cases of chronic
illness and weight gain, but it wasn't until she saw a patient recently
returned from Brazil that a light bulb went off in her head: the patient had
noticed marked improvement after just a few weeks in her father's native
village. Intrigued, Miller did some research and found a number of "cold
spots" around the world, areas where chronic diseases like diabetes,
depression and heart disease are disproportionately low. She then embarked on a
world tour to find out why. As she travels through Copper Canyon, Mexico to
Cameroon, West Africa to Iceland-where locals manage to avoid depression in one
of the darkest and coldest regions in the world-and beyond, Miller finds that,
in each case, local diet plays a key role. Many of her overarching tips will
sound familiar (eat fresh foods, eat more fish, avoid refined sugar, watch the
salt, etc.), but a handful of suggestions, such as eating fermented foods and
using mushrooms to fight cancer, should come as news. Miller's work is
consistently informative and educational, if at times meandering; each
"cold spot" is accompanied by a specific regimen, and Miller's
practical advice and recipes are all geared for the novice. Anyone unafraid of
modifying their diet will find this anthropological diet guide useful.

THE FIVE HEART ZONES
Heart zones are all expressed as a percentage of your
maximum heart rate (Max HR). They reflect exercise intensity. By training in
each of the five different zones you’ll realize five different results. Using
your heartbeat, you’ll set each of these zones at 10% of your Heart Rate Max.

So it's getting a bit cooler in most places.
ANd I saw something this morning that I just have to comment on.
For the love of all mankind. If you're going to wear workout tights in public (public of any kind - which to me includes a workout room) please please please wear an empty skirt over them!
You know what I'm talking about...especially if they're you're favorite tights from a few years ago. Believe me it's just not flattering so cover it up with a cute little workout skirt. And by empty skirt obviously you need one without undies or shorts attached.
Turn an ugly situation into a cute one!
