Its obvious that The Bachelor can teach us what not to do while dating someone. Well, at least someone whos dating multiple women who may or may not be crazy and who you also happen to be living with. But with Ben being a winemaker, this seasons giving us lessons we can actually use!
On last weeks premiere episode, we learned that you cant make wine from grocery store grapes and that you should always know what you favorite hot-day varietal is. This week took us even further into wine country, even if we had a few unfortunate detours into the land of ombre hair and ugly-crying in corners. Heres what we learned:
#1 If youre dating a winemaker (or trying to), you get to live in a sweet grape-growing area.
Someone on Twitter asked if the girls were living in Bens house. Nope. Theyve been set up in Vineyard Knoll, a private villa in the in the Carneros appellation (a designated wine area that makes awesome Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). It has a main house, club house, pool pavilion, pool, pro tennis court, 3 BBQ stations and a golf course. Shell out $19.9 mil and its all yours.
#2 Sonomas home to the oldest winery in California.
On his date with Kacie B., Ben walked her around town and pointed out the oldest California winery Buena Vista. It was founded in 1857 by this guy Agoston Haraszthy, a Hungarian count who brought tons of European grapes to the states but eventually lost all his money drowned in a river in Nicaragua. Luckily, the grape varieties had a better fate.
#3 Good wine makes for a good date.
He also took Kacie B. to The Girl & The Fig restaurant. They were drinking red wine, though we didnt see him order to know what kind. They only serve Rhône varietals there though, mostly Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre which are all baller, yummy grapes. I actually thought Ben and Kacie were cute together and it seemed like they were both trying. Kudos. All too rare that youre both really into each other on a first date.
#4 The wine a guy brings on a date indicates if hes into you. Or that hes a winemaker.
On his date with Courtney, one of those models who knows exactly how to get a guy into her but will probably go Fatal Attraction on him soon enough, they went on a picnic at a lake. Two people, two bottles of wine I like it. Also, seems like a good sign that he brought both red and white since he probably didnt know her preference. But that still wasnt as cute as his dog Scotch.
Good luck, Ben, and keep your glass full! Youll need it.
