Big Girl in a Skinny World: Swimsuits

Big Girl in a Skinny World: Swimsuits

Let's talk swimsuits. Actually, let's not. Just kidding. Swimsuits are almost every curvy girl's worst nightmare! (At least they were mine until not long ago). If you are anything like me, you love being a part of the action, and don't want to miss out on anything. But, summer can bring up all sorts of anxiety when it comes to bearing all for the poolside picnic or family trip to the local water-park.

I've never been one to sit ashore wishing I were the one playing chicken on a boy's shoulders. Now, I don't play chicken, but I jump in. Life is too short not to. This has not always been easy for me, but I believe it looks worse to sit on the sideline sulking than it does to participate in life. These women may not be size zeroes (and I am pretty sure they don't want to be), but their confidence amazes, encourages, and inspires me. This picture was taken in Santa Monica, CA by the multi-talented Natalie Ferraro, and embodies the attitude I feel EVERY woman should embrace.

Loving your curves can be a challenge, but — at least for me — confidence starts with looking and feeling great. This episode gives some solid advice on how to accomplish beach beautiful, and maybe even get a little summer lovin'. Thanks to amazing designers like Monif C. (featured in the video) and Sorella Swim, curvy girls can REJOICE that our choices for chic and sexy swimwear have grown exponentially. It is my wish that you invest in a fabulous piece of swimwear so that you too can tap into your inner mermaid and enjoy some rays (with SPF on, of course).

For a little more inspiration check out Gabi Gregg (the face of the Limited's new plus size brand, Eloquii) rocking the latest trend for us curvy cuties, the "fat-kini" on the Today Show.
