Between Wednesday's People's Choice Awards, yesterday's Oscar nominations, last night's Critics' Choice Awards, and Sunday's Golden Globes, we've had a serious case of awards season fever this week. The shows have been far from monotonous, however, as each red carpet presents a different (though often subtly so) dress code that keeps us fashion buffs on our toes.
The Critics' Choice Awards featured elegant gowns much less daring — meaning, covering noticeably more skin — than those at the PCA's. Last night's red carpet, true to tradition, wasn't quite as formal as we'll see at the Golden Globes and February's Oscars. It was a perfect balance between conservative, ornate gowns and playful, super-short mini-dresses that these five stars rocked better than anyone.
Naomi Watts wowed in a simple black Emilio Pucci gown, complete with that terrifically trendy chest mesh and shimmering accessories. We're glad that the Best Actress Oscar nominee (The Impossible) jazzed up her black with a minaudière, bracelet, and earrings that took the ensemble to a less serious level.
We absolutely love it when some old-school Hollywood glam makes its way onto any red carpet, which Emmy Rossum perfected in a Carolina Herrera gown and big wave hairstyle. This Shameless silver screen starlet looked stunning in the dress' organza overlay and crystal star appliqué, fresh off the Pre-Fall 2013 runway.
The lovely Jennifer Lawrence walked away from the show with a win for Best Actress in a Comedy (Silver Linings Playbook), as well as a win on the red carpet. Ms. Lawrence worked it clad in a belted, cut-out Prabal Gurung gown that paired classic silk chiffon with edgier leather shoulders.
The only red carpet darling not wearing a gown to make it onto our list, Marion Cotillard stunned in a floral Zuhair Murad frock. Nominated for Best Actress (Rust and Bone) last night, she stole the spotlight in this dreamy shin-length dress and cut-out Jimmy Choos.
Emily Blunt went with a gorgeous winter white ensemble with classic shoes, jewelry, and a flapper-inspired 'do to boot. Our favorite part of this Miu Miu gown are the sparkly straps, while her red lip gives the outfit the only punch of color it needs.
