Obama Nominates John Kerry for Secretary of State

Announced earlier this afternoon, President Barack Obama nominated Mass. Senator John Kerry to be the next secretary of state. Kerry, who currently chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had been in the secretary of state rumor mill alongside the American ambassador to the U.N., Susan Rice, for several months now.

Kerry, who of course ran opposite George W. Bush in the 2004 election, is internationally noted for having the skill set required of the secretary of state position, including relationship-building experience, foreign policy knowledge, and "on-the-job-training," as Obama stated in his afternoon announcement.

Kerry replaces Hillary Clinton, current and outgoing secretary of state, which is sure to be a bittersweet transition. As Clinton swears she's done with public life — which we learned in our October interview with the politician — we look forward to seeing Kerry in action.
