Dove and Mandy Moore Show Us Some Serious Role Models

Since the launch of Dove's Real Beauty campaign in 2004, the skincare brand has preached the love-yourself-word through ads celebrating confident and gorgeous women. Now, Dove has enlisted actress Mandy Moore to kick off its new Women Who Should Be Famous campaign—a component of their Movement for Self Esteem—which showcases seven standout women (among them are a musician, mathematician, molecular biologist, and inventor) who are making a huge difference. "This is our opportunity to celebrate real women who are changing the world—through innovative breakthroughs, education, and meaningful relationships with other women," says Moore. We caught up with the star in NYC before the campaign's official launch at the Girl Scouts Rock the Mall event last Saturday to get the deets.

What's your role as the ambassador of Dove's Women Who Should Be Famous campaign?
First of all, I was absolutely thrilled when Dove approached me about joining this platform. Growing up in the public spotlight and having insecurities like every other girl, I really know what it's like to feel self-conscious. My role is to help get the word out about the importance of having a positive role model in your life. Developing a relationship with someone you admire, who can encourage you to reach your full potential, is something that everyone can benefit from.

What's the best thing you've learned from being a part of this campaign?
I've been really inspired by the level of creativity that these seven remarkable women posses. I love that they think outside the box. When I got involved, I was really focused on the message of the campaign. But having had the opportunity to get to know these extraordinary women, I've realized that I've had the added bonus of forging long-lasting friendships with them.

Who is your role model?
My mom has always been my support system. She taught me to never give up and to keep pursuing my passions no matter what.

What makes you feel your most confident?
I feel the most confident when I'm faced with challenges and I work hard enough to meet them (however small or large they may be). Finishing a workout at SoulCycle, for example, makes me feel accomplished, empowered, and amazing!

What's your must-have makeup obsession?
I'm minimalistic when it comes to makeup, so I'm a sucker for anything that's multi-tasking. Aquaphor is my go-to product. It's great for adding gloss to eyes and cheekbones, and amazing for soothing dry cuticles, too.
