Marc Jacobs Bids Farewell With Final Louis Vuitton Collection

Marc Jacobs celebrated Paris and the women who inspire him with his final collection for the famed French fashion house, Louis Vuitton.

After months of rumors, Jacobs confirmed on Wednesday that he would be leaving Vuitton to focus on bringing his eponymous fashion line public, making the Spring 2014 runway show his last for the brand he's worked with for nearly two decades.

"This collection is dedicated to the women who inspire me and to the showgirl in every one of them," Jacobs wrote in his Spring 2014 show notes that were distributed to guests. Jacobs named more than 30 women, including the likes of Jane Birkin, Coco Chanel, Cher, Sofia Coppola, Catherine Deneuve, Lady Gaga, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Vivienne Westwood, and Miuccia Prada, among others.

"Whether extrovert or esoteric, they are the figures that keep visual language vital. Their style, imagination, creativity, talent, vision and voice have changed our landscape," he added.

Jacobs is expected to return to his native New York once his contract expires with Vuitton at the end of the year, so his final collection also paid tribute to the city where he's worked for 16 years: Paris. "When I look around Paris, it isn't the depth of the city that takes my breath away. It's the decoration and the applied ornamentation that dazzles," he wrote. "It is not about thinking, it is about feeling." Appropriately so, a jumpsuit with writing that read, "I Love Paris" appeared in Jacobs' final Vuitton collection.
