Michelle Obama Shuts Down Heckler

Michelle Obama Shuts Down Heckler

You know what they say: If you play with fire, you're going to get burned. Similarly, if you interrupt Michelle Obama's speech, you're going to get called out for it. Tuesday night, the FLOTUS was addressing attendees on prevention of gun violence at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Washington. Halfway through her speech, Obama was cut off by the screams of a protester, Ellen Sturtz, demanding an executive order on LGBT rights. Such an executive order would prevent contractors from discriminating based on sexual orientation.

Instead of quietly dismissing the protester's untimely cries — as her husband did two weeks ago — she paused her speech to speak directly to her. "One of the things I don't do well is this," Obama said as she left the podium to approach the reporter, "Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I'm leaving. You all decide. You have one choice." Given the choice between the two, the audience roared in applause for the first lady to continue.

Sturtz was quickly escorted out, continuing to plead her case, crying that she was a "lesbian looking for federal equality before I die." If Obama's no-nonsense response proves one thing, it's this: don't mess with Michelle.
