When Florence and the Machine burst onto the alt-pop music scene in 2009, we were all transfixed by the group's breathy vocals, power beats, and impressively catchy song structure and lyricism. There have been a number of imitators in those last four years, but none with whom we've been as totally obsessed as MS MR. So, when our Music Editor Sergio Kletnoy brought vocalist Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow to the Hearst Tower, we had to get their inside scoop for The Bulletin.

These two New Yorkers just released their debut album Secondhand Rapture two days ago, and released three singles — "Hurricane," "Bones," and "Fantasy" — before that. The duo's vintage sound is undeniable, and much more authentic than a number of fellow alt-pop musicians you've probably jammed to. But also unlike their competitors, MS MR presents a dreamy, extremely current element to their tunes, too, leaving an incredibly unique balance that we haven't been able to get out of our heads. It's not just us, either: Pitchfork awarded their groovy and haunting single "Hurricane" the "Best New Track" award, and the track's May 2012 video quickly garnered more than 1.5 million YouTube views.

Take our word for it: Secondhand Rapture is a serious gem among this season's album releases, and you don't want to miss out. Watch the video for MS MR's latest hit, "Fantasy."
