We at MC are constantly on the hunt for the latest ladies breaking into power-pop music scene. Our recent obsession with femme DJs knows no bounds — especially those that have an impressive level of confidence, style, and (of course) talent. Last week, Swedish DJ duo Rebecca & Fiona stopped by our office and — no exaggeration — we haven't been able to stop listening to their tunes ever since.
Rebecca Scheja and Fiona Fitzpatrick joined forces in Stockholm in 2010 and immediately began working on their debut album I Love You, Man!, released in 2011. The duo has been keeping quite busy since then, booking festival-after-festival, playing at international gigs, and releasing eight singles. Not to mention, they've been maintaining and enhancing their killer, vintage-inspired style — they basically live in their club-kid platforms, both on and off the DJ stand. They're glamourous, they're fun, and, as they described to us last week, they're political — the duo enjoys charting territory in their music that many of their colleagues tend to avoid. Just pay attention to the lyrics of their latest single, "Union," which sounds like a 1970s disco track dipped in the absolute grooviest of 2013's EDM craze: "Restless friending over streets, controlled by blank minds / Burning everything we built, afraid to shout out."
