Weeks after armed gunmen abducted more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls from their dormitory, Angelina Jolie spoke out on the horrific circumstances surrounding the missing girls.

While promoting her new film Maleficent in Paris, the actress and activist reportedly told a press conference, "The kidnapping of these young Nigerian girls is an unthinkable cruelty." She added, "Sadly, of course, there is real evil in the world. You watch the news and you see all of the people suffering and so much cruelty."

Jolie's comments came on the same day President Obama vowed to send a team consisting of military, intelligence, and law enforcement advisors to Nigeria to help find the missing girls.

"In the short term our goal is obviously is to help the international community, and the Nigerian government," Obama said during an interview with the Today show. "But we're also going to have to deal with the broader problem of organizations like [the Boko Haram] that ... can cause such havoc in people's day-to-day lives."

The Boko Haram, an extremist Islamist militant group that has been around for more than a decade and whose name loosely translates to "Western education is a sin," claimed responsibility for the kidnappings earlier this week. The group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, recorded a video saying that he would sell the girls. According to a CNN translation, he said, "I abducted your girls. I will sell the in the market, by Allah. There's a market for selling humans."

Reports surfaced on Tuesday that suspected Boko Haram gunmen abducted even more teenaged girls in Nigeria.
