After 20 years in the entertainment industry Jennifer Love Hewitt has assumed the roles of child actor, singer/songwriter, movie star, producer, and director. Recently shes added author to that list with the release of her first book, The Day I Shot Cupid. Part tell-all memoir, part dating guide, the book mixes in anecdotes, advice, and cold, hard truths about love and men. MC caught up with Hewitt at the books launch party in New York, were she answered our questions on love advice, date-night beauty, and how to deal with a broken heart.
You've said that you want this book to serve as a dating companion, like a friendly reference for love advice. Who's your real-life dating reference?
I call my friends Ashton and Jenny and they always tell me the truth. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes I don't. I don't leave the house without asking them at least 40 questions...once they approve, I'm set to go.
What's the best advice they've given you?
The best advice they've ever given at least the advice thats fit for print is probably, what you put out there people will accept. If you walk out of the house and think you feel great, or if someone tells you that you look amazing, believe it and just say thank you.
What's the one beauty item you have to have in your bag during a date?
Lip gloss, lots and lots of lip gloss
Any other go-to date-night beauty tips?
Elizabeth Taylor taught me that if you do your hair and makeup first then take a hot bath right before you leave, it brings out your inner glow and takes away the powdery look from makeup. I do that right before every date.
And if you're short on time...
You can stand in the bathroom while the shower runs.
Can shopping soothe a broken heart?
Of course! New clothes are a great way to deal after a breakup. A good mix CD also helps you get through it and...you know, 72 hours of ice cream.
Give us three words that should be part of the modern relationship.
Respect, trust, and sexy.
