Mamie Gummer Takes on the Classics

"I got wise to the fact that we were different when we got to cut the lines at Disney World," she says.

"It only became an issue when we were traveling and people would bother us all the time," Gummer recalls. "As a kid it's very invasive and not always fun. I'll grant Disney World was awesome, but just trying to have dinner at a restaurant? Not so much."

Gummer's first love is the theater. It was on stage that she met fiancé Benjamin Walker, star of last year's hit Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (both off- and on Broadway), and it's there that she'll always feel at home.

While she admits to being seduced by the sunny hills of L.A., "All I really want to do is plays — and that's a New York thing."

If her latest role as Dr. Mina Minard on ABC's jungle medical drama Off the Map hasn't quite made her a household name, she's perfectly happy with that. "That's never been my goal," she states.

Gummer is now facing the common fear of daughters everywhere: turning into her mother. "It's already happening," she says. "You catch yourself saying something in a certain way, and you recognize it immediately."
