Barbie's leaning in, and she's got the laptop case to prove it. Mattel debuted its newest incarnation of the doll, Entrepreneur Barbie, at this year's American International Toy Fair in New York.
Complete with a tablet and smartphone, Barbie is set to take over the start-up world as an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur of what, one might ask? That remains unclear, but we do know that she's just super entrepreneurial and she seeks to become Chief Inspiration Officer of a yet-to-be-started company near you. For her new roll, Barbie is outfitted in black heels, a pink sheath dress with "modern color-blocking, luxe accessories, and a sophisticated hairstyle."
According to Mattel, Barbie has taken on 150 careers over her lifespan, ranging from pilot to rockstar. Mattel spokesperson Michelle Chidoni told CNN Money, "We always try to make career Barbie a reflection of the times. Women entrepreneurs are more prevalent now and they're growing in number. [It's] a great way to encourage girls to also learn about this role."
Mattel's announcement comes on the heels of a female entrepreneur making waves for disrupting the pink aisle with her building blocks toy set designed specifically for young girls. Goldieblox founder Debbie Sterling made history last month when her company became the first small business to get a Super Bowl commercial. Sterling won a contest sponsored by Intuit, who picked up the $4 million price tag. The product seeks to foster young girls' interest in engineering.
Entrepreneur Barbie hits shelves in June.
