After hitting it out of the park with her debut Pure Heroine, it's hard to see why Lorde would change anything about her flawless formula. But as Madonna taught us many times over, true artists evolve and it's that growth that can make or break them over time. So, naturally, Lorde has assured us that her forthcoming record will be "totally different."
In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, the 17-year-old Kiwi explained that her next album will showcase how she's matured.
"I think I've learnt so much as a songwriter, there's going to be so much of an improvement because of that," she said. "I'm working on stuff quite tentatively, it's definitely still at the beginning and yeah, it's totally different."
Considering the whirlwind year Lorde's had, it's no surprise that her outlook, much like her lifestyle, has changed.
"I wrote the last album about that world which was the suburb where I grew up and populated by my friends and people who were really familiar to me," she said. "Now I'm in a different place every day and I'm with new people every day and it's a different vibe."
We might be in the dark about what those future vibes may be, but we're feverish with excitement nonetheless.
