Angelina Jolie Said She Was “Pretty Broken” After Her Split From Brad Pitt

“It was a tough time.”

  • Angelina Jolie opened up about feeling “broken” in the years leading up to filming her new Maleficent:Mistress of Evil movie.
  • Angelina and her ex-husband Brad Pitt broke up and filed for divorce in 2016.

Three years ago, the biggest tabloid story of the early aughts got a somber update when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie filed for divorce after an alleged incident involving Brad and their eldest son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt. Brad and Angelina have been pretty mum about the whole situation even with all the rumors that are constantly swirling, but now, in the days leading up to the new Maleficent: Mistress of Evil movie, Angelina shared a little bit about what it was like for her during that time period.

Talking to People magazine about the Disney sequel, Angelina said taking on her first acting credit in four years and reprising her role as the misunderstood fairy and protector of the Moors wasn’t an easy task. She shared, “It was a tough time. I’d been coming off a few years of difficulty, and I was not feeling very strong.” (Angelina didn’t name any names, but one of the biggest stories at the time was her and Brad’s split.)

She went on to say, “In fact, I was feeling pretty broken. It took me a moment to feel the strength of [Maleficent] again.”

On a lighter note, Angelina also said that she asked her kids if they wanted to be in the movie but none of them were interested—not even Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who played baby Aurora in the first movie! She added, “I tried. Viv still can’t believe I made her a princess. None of my kids want to be actors. [They’re into] business, humanitarian affairs, things like that. Nobody was interested!” Acting is sooooo passé, it seems.

Anyway, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil hits theaters this Friday!
