Besides the obvious (the crown, the country, her historic reign) there are a few things that are indelibly associated with Queen Elizabeth II: her bright monochrome outfits, her love of horses, and of course, her dogs. Her Majesty is a lifelong devotee to her canines, and corgis have long held a special place in her heart—she received her first-ever corgi, Susan, as an 18th birthday present, and for decades has at least one dog from Susan's lineage in her home. (Her final corgi in Susan's line, Willow, sadly passed away in 2018.)
While many fans may associate her with a veritable pack of the spirited little creatures, since her dachshund-corgi mix Vulcan passed on in 2020, she has actually been down to a single remaining dog, Candy. Or, at least, she was.
Earlier this month, during the time when Prince Philip was hospitalized for a cardiac procedure, news broke that the Queen had acquired two new four-legged members of the royal family in the form of then-unnamed corgi puppies. Now at last the names of these tail-wagging royals have reportedly been revealed, and according to The Sun,and they both appear to have special meaning for the Queen.
The first of the puppies, Fergus (another dachshund-corgi mix AKA dorgi) is named for Her Majesty's uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon who was killed in action during World War I. The second is reportedly named Muick (pronounced Mick) after Loch Muick on the Queen's beloved Balmoral estate in Scotland where she and her family regularly spend their summer holidays.
Though the pups have yet to be seen in public, you can bet that royal watchers will be looking on with bated breath for the first appearances of these new, clearly loved royal pets.
