Prince William and Kate Middleton attended a "lavish reception" at Buckingham Palace last night. The pair were special guests at the Queen's annual shindig for diplomats serving in London, who get the opportunity to meet members of the royal family. That's what they're all there for, after all. No photos of the actual party have been released, because rumors are that things get wild after a few rounds of tipsy Twister — the Queen spins the little color wheel, just FYI. But Wills and Kate were seen leaving Kensington Palace for Buckingham in their chauffeur-driven luxury car. Kate wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen gown featuring lacy embroidery, offset by an eye-catching diamond tiara with matching earrings. Also, she's doing something new with her hair again.

It's the first time the Duchess has worn a tiara since the royal wedding, at least in public — though she's surely trying them on in private all the time and then sending selfies to little sister Pippa with messages like like "me > you xx C." And it's jewelry borrowed from her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, no less. Originally created for the Queen's mother from a wedding gift she received from her husband, King George VI, the tiara then passed down to Princess Margaret, the Queen's younger sister, and presumably back to the Queen herself following Princess Margaret's death in 2002.

Kate looks lovely. More tiaras, please.
