Game of Thrones may be filled with heartbreaking character death on-screen, but the real tragedy is when it comes off-screen. Just a few days into filming the show's fifth season, JJ Murphy, the actor who had just been set to play Ser Denys Mallister, the oldest member of the Night's Watch on the uber-popular HBO fantasy series, passed away at the age of 86. Murphy, a Northern Irish actor, had a long career on-stage in the Northern Ireland theater scene. Murphy only had the chance to shoot a few scenes for his part in Game of Thrones before his passing.

The steps following his death—whether they'll recast or write the role out of the rest of the upcoming season—have yet to be announced by GoT producers.
