Kensington Palace is showcasing Princess Diana's most iconic outfits as part of a new exhibition chronicling her fashion journey, and it's opened us up to a world of wonderful, sartorial facts.

Curator Eleri Lynn notes that while Diana loved fashion, she also wanted to focus on her work—so she found a way to "use fashion to help that." This lead to the princess making some unusual decisions, like opting out of gloves and hats.

"She abandoned the royal protocol of wearing gloves because she liked to hold hands when visiting people or shake hands and have direct contact," Lynn tells People. "She also stopped wearing hats because she said, 'You can't cuddle a child in a hat.'"
