Look, to put it nicely, Suicide Squad wasn't exactly a critical success. So, the fact that the super-villain film casually won an Oscar (for Best Makeup) is pretty shocking. Not La-La-Land-accidentally-wins-then-loses-best-picture shocking, but close.
Some people were surprised:
"Suicide Squad won more Oscars than Silence."@adnanESPN #Oscars pic.twitter.com/jErdARB8wIFebruary 27, 2017
Others were horrified.
Just tried saying "the Oscar-winning Suicide Squad" out loud and I instantly developed asthma, hives, and horns. #OscarsFebruary 27, 2017
Others were unimpressed:
I can't believe Suicide Squad won an Oscar for writing damaged on Jared Leto's foreheadFebruary 27, 2017
Some went in for the Trump comparisons:
We live in a world where Donald Trump is President and Suicide Squad is an Oscar award winning movie. Let's let that sink in. #OscarsFebruary 27, 2017
Others were upset by the injustice of it all:
"Hi, America. It's me, Amy. Just wanted to remind you that Suicide Squad now has an Oscar, and I don't. Cool, cool." #Oscars pic.twitter.com/00KmDZTmWWFebruary 27, 2017
And some took the opportunity to use this Justin Timberlake GIF:
"and the oscar goes to... suicide squad" pic.twitter.com/j6Vxq1mNjuFebruary 27, 2017
In conclusion: what a time to be alive.
