The cover art for Selena Gomez's new single "Bad Liar" is here, and the internet is up in arms over what everyone assumes is a blatant glamorization of suicide. Why? Probably something to do with the tears in her eyes, the bandage on her wrist, and the hospital band.

The thing is, this photo was actually taken after Selena's return home from hospital for Lupus, which was explained by Petra Collins when a commenter wrote "What's this pic trying to convey? Attempted suicide? Lame."

Selena suffered from depression and anxiety as a result of her Lupus diagnosis, and while any potential glamorization of these issues is similarly questionable, fans should also consider the fact that Selena is allowed to draw from her real life experiences and struggles in her art.
