Days before the Oscars, we can't help but slink into obsession with this year's leading ladies: Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, and, yes, even Anne Hathaway. We're cramming in YouTube sessions and re-living our favorite scenes from those movies that have plunged these fabulous A-list actresses further into the spotlight.
We loved Jessica Chastain in instant classics like The Help, where her quirky, ready-to-please character somehow resonated with all of us, or Jolene, in which she played the fiery red-haired, man-hopping, troubled young woman who couldn't keep a husband to save her life. But this year she's nominated for Best Actress for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, the controversial chronicle into the hunt for Osama bin Laden. The film is without a doubt one of the most daunting projects Jessica has undertaken, and though the movie itself sparks heated debates, it left no doubt that this actress is here to stay.
Her main competition this year: Silver Lining's Playbook star Jennifer Lawrence. Yes, Jennifer Lawrence ditched the Katniss Everdeen fire-gown, but she still heated up the screen in her first blockbuster rom-com beside heartthrob Bradley Cooper. What we learned is that Jennifer isn't just a star in District 12 or hipster indie films — she's got a comedic side we've never seen before, and one that is most definitely worthy of an Academy Award nomination. The battle between the J's is one to keep an eye on this Sunday night.
Last, but never least, we have Anne Hathaway, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for, you guessed it, Les Misérables. It's a good thing she's not in the same category as our other two favorite nominees this year, since that rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" is one we all know is going to send shivers down our spines for, well, ever. When YouTube-ing our favorite Les Mis scenes and watching Anne belt out that heart-wrenching performance, it's hard to believe this is the same woman who played the dorky, frizzy-haired Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries.
Until Sunday, fingers will remain crossed and well wishes will be sent to our favorite leading ladies. Who are you hoping will bring home a statue?
