Adnan Syed from 'Serial' Just Scored a Major Win in His Appeal

A potential alibi witness will finally take the stand.

While we're all waiting with baited breath (and perhaps some slight apprehension) for the second season of the captivating Serial podcast, major news has broken for the main subject from Season 1.

If you'll recall, earlier this summer the Maryland Court of Special Appeals sent Adnan Syed's case back to a circuit court for appeal, pending their approval. The basis of this appeal rests on the argument made by Syed's lawyers that his former attorney, Cristina Gutierrez, failed to call to the stand a key witness, Asia McClain. McClain has since claimed that she saw Syed at the library at the same time he was alleged to have murdered his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee, which could provide a potentially case-altering alibi for Syed's appeal. Yesterday, the Law Offices of C. Justin Brown announced that the motion to reopen the case has been granted, allowing the alibi witness and new evidence surrounding the much-debated cell tower issues to be presented and reevaluated in court. *BIG WIN!*

Will the new information that has come to light since the wildly popular podcast unfolded be enough to rescind the outcome of this 15-year-old case? Cue the renewed fascination of Serial fans everywhere.
