Why 'The Walking Dead' Is Never Going to Get Cancelled

It will live on forever...like a zombie.

Insert your own zombie joke here, because The Walking Dead is probably going to outlive us all.

AMC Networks President Josh Sapan promised this week that the drama "has incredible long life left in it," and will likely stay on the air for "many, many more years."

Specifically, Sapan suggested the show—and its surrounding franchise, which now includes a spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead–could have the same lifespan as Star Trek.

"[Star Trek] came and went three times," Sapan remarked of the long-running sci-fi franchise, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. "We do think that we have a franchise [here] that is one of the rare franchises that you occasionally come across in what we do for a living."

But though the show may go on, it's a safe bet most of its characters won't enjoy the same longevity.

The Walking Dead's seventh season begins on Sunday, October 23. Watch the trailer below.
