The 'Last Jedi' Trailer Just Delivered One of the Biggest Moments in 'Star Wars' History

Luke Skywalker finally speaks.

After years of anticipation—and relentless speculation—Disney has finally revealed the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Like the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, this one opens with heavy breathing. This time it's Rey, who appears to be out of breath on the island where she met Luke at the end of Episode Seven. From there, we see scenes of Rey training, a few battles and hear Luke Skywalker's first words in decades. At the end of the trailer he says: "It's time for the Jedi to end."

What does it mean?

During a panel today at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, the cast revealed a little bit of what's going on in the next movie.

"We go deep into Rey's story," Daisy Ridley said during the The Last Jedi panel. "Rey has a certain expectation of what she's getting from Luke and what that might entail, and as many people know it's difficult to meet your heroes because it might not be what you expect."

Which is a vague and mildly concerning plot description. What we expect is for Luke to have been an enlightened Jedi sitting on an island meditating awaiting Rey's arrival to begin her training. But if he's not that, what is he? A disgruntled old man? A kooky hermit like Yoda? Hopefully not evil? But during the panel, while referring to the other Star Wars cast, Mark Hamil pointed to Ridley and said, "My daught—." Then stopped. (But he might have been joking.)

We'll find out when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017.
