'This Is Us' Will Take Us to a Whole New Decade

Director Regina King gave us the details.

If you thought This Is Us—which jumps around in time as it covers two generations of the Pearson family—had covered just about every era possible so far, you're wrong. According to one of its new directors, Regina King, we'll be seeing our favorite TV family "in a different decade that you've never seen before."

King, who just finished directing a season two episode, said that little spoiler on the Emmys red carpet in Los Angeles on Sunday, adding, "I think that's giving enough without getting in trouble with NBC, right?"

The multi-decade show has already covered the '70s, '80s, '90s, and the present day, so we're running short of options here—could we be time-traveling to the future next? Maybe we're just celebrating the turn of the millennium with them—who knows? Well, we won't have to wait long to find out, hopefully; season 2 comes to NBC on September 26.

So will the American Crime and The Leftovers star King be acting in the show as well as directing? "When you're working with actors that are that dialed-in and so good at what they do and love the art form of acting, when you're behind the camera directing them, there is that part of you that wants to jump in and be in the scene," she said. "You never know. We'll put it out in the universe."
