A recent Dutch study reports that a food's retro-nasal aroma (what you smell in the back of your nose as food reaches the back of your tongue) helps determine how satiating it is. To feel fuller, opt for solid rather than semisolid food (fruit instead of a smoothie, for instance) and chew and savor it in your mouth for as long as possible to maximize the molecules picked up by your inner nose.
