Hooray! Twitter named Marjorie Scardino its first female board member on Wednesday. Twitter has recently been scrutinized for its board's gender imbalance, and then even further scrutinized for their jocular response to the serious matter.

Scardino is the former CEO of Pearson Plc, an education and media conglomerate. The business mogul was first appointed to the position in 1997, making her the first female CEO of an FTSE 100 company. Under Scardino's watch, employees doubled and sales tripled. In 2012 she was rightfully listed 86th on Forbes' list of 100 Most Powerful Women in the World.
