Hip-hop queen Nicki Minaj's highly anticipated new album The Pinkprint is out today, which means our entire office has popped on a pair of headphones and is contentedly nodding our way through the afternoon.
While Minaj has been always been playful with her many personalities, it's her raw emotions that are more palpable than ever on the new 16-track offering—and it all comes down to matters of the heart. You can peel back Minaj's deepest, most vulnerable layers on tracks like "Bed of Lies," "Pills N Potions," and our personal favorite, "The Crying Game" featuring Jessie Ware.
But as she promised in an interview with Rap-Up, certain songs call to mind Minaj when she first burst onto the scene in all her unabashed glory. "The Pinkprint will remind people why they fell in love with Nicki Minaj," she explained. "And I think that needs to be done."
You'll find Minaj's signature tongue-in-cheek candor on bass-heavy tracks like the feminist-charged "Feeling Myself" featuring Beyoncé, reggae-flavored "Trini Dem Girls," and of course, the Sir-Mix-a-Lot-sampling "Anaconda."
