Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield Spotted Together Again

First hand-holding, now grocery shopping—but are they back together?

Update 5/24: Following rumors earlier this week that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield were spotted all smiles and hand-holding, we were left hopeful, but you know, pics or it didn't happen. So yesterday was a big deal. The celebs were photographed together for the first time since they split. We have to say, it certainly doesn't look like there's much post-breakup awkwardness going on here.

If this isn't evidence that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are getting back together, we don't know what is. Who goes grocery shopping with an ex if things are not on the mend??

Update, 5/21: Almost a month after she appeared in public carrying a paper receptacle with the all-important words "Andrew Garfield" scrawled on it, Emma Stone and the human who bears the name on the bag have been spotted—sit down—holding hands.

According to E! News, the reportedly defunct couple ate things at a restaurant while again interlocking fingers (impressive), and, when attending the premiere of Aloha, Stone allegedly greeted Garfield's parents warmly. Decent people on a break but still kind of touchy? Or decent people who never really broke up? I don't think I'm out of line when I say, on behalf of all of us, "Telllllllll usssssss."

Update, 4/30: In an interesting twist, Stone was spotted shopping in Beverly Hills, carrying a bag clearly labeled "Andrew Garfield."

While the internet has gone crazy thinking this obviously means the two are back together, we have a couple other ideas:

1) She is a great human being who is dropping off something for her quasi/maybe/sometimes-ex

2) She's eco-conscious and had this extra bag in her car from their days together

3) She just likes to mess with everyone

(We're kind of hoping for the last one.)

Update, 4/22: It seems the relationship might be over for good. "It's finished. It's not just a break," a source told Us Weekly. The biggest reason for the split still seems to be Andrew Garfield's commitment to his craft—the actor has been getting into his character for the upcoming Scorcese film Silence, which effectively shut out Stone."

"He'd been in a dark place for months, getting into his role," a second insider told Us Weekly. "He wasn't being the best partner."

As heartbroken as we are, it's kind of charming that Dedication To The Craft is what did it, as opposed to, like, some other girl. Also maybe it means there's a chance they get back together after the movie's done filming? Right? Right???

Original story, 4/7: It's a sad, sad day. According to People, the adorable twosome that is Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone have broken up. Er, are taking a break. Whatever, the point is they're not together right now and our hearts hurt.

After three years of dating, the duo have apparently taken a pause due to the long-distance nature of their relationship. Garfield is shooting Silence with Martin Scorsese in Taiwan, and he was very noticeably absent from Stone's recent red carpet appearances, including the Oscars, where she was up for Best Supporting Actress.

"He's thrown himself in the project to the detriment of all else," a source told People. "But it's too early to say the relationship is over."

STOP TALKING, SOURCE, STOP TALKING.

"Emma understands his work anxieties—it's why she originally pulled out of Cabaret last year and only did it this year—but they're taking a break from seeing each other," the mystery informant continued. "They're both a slave to their schedules. This time last year they were privately discussing marriage."

Another insider source apparently confirms that while the split is real, it's not an *official* breakup. Whatever that means, because we're adults here and this isn't Facebook.

Sorry, we lash out when we're sad. Garfield and Stone—we're rooting for you.
