I've been there: rather than lying under potentially harmful UV rays, you make a smart choice, and decide to get your glow the faux way — with a self-tanner. At first glance, your color oozes Caribbean getaway, but upon closer inspection, your tan is more George Hamilton than Gisele.

Believe it or not, splotchy, uneven application comes from applying too little product. But don't fret over this beauty-blunder. Instead, use these faux-tan fixers to immediately rid yourself of embarrassing orange streaks and unnatural, excess color.

St. Tropez Tan Remover ($18) — Removes unflattering orange residue, especially from palms and between fingers or toes for up to four hours after a botched application. Sulfate-free, this salon-inspired formula gently massages away extra color quickly and easily.

ModelCo Tan Remover ($18) — This grapefruit-scented exfoliating scrub uses micro-salt particles to dissolve unwanted streaking and over-saturated color. Vitamin E and other moisturizing extracts leave skin buffed, smooth, hydrated, and prepped for a fresh coat of self-tanner.

In a bind? Skin finishing expert Sophie Evans recommends drenching the area with lemon juice and allowing it to settle for at least five minutes. The acidity helps strip away excess color.
