Rachel Comey will show her spring 2014 collection at an intimate dinner for family and friends Wednesday night, a rep confirmed to Cosmopolitan.com. The rep declined to elaborate on why Comey opted out of a runway show, something the fashion week crowd — many of whom want nothing more from their fashion lives right now than to to look exactly like a perfectly disheveled, didn't-try-but-still-pulls-off-jumpsuits Comey runway model — always looks forward to. Last season, Comey's show drew positive reviews from New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, Style.com, and Women's Wear Daily, among others.
"We've been doing fashion shows every year for 11 years," Comey told BuzzFeed Fashion in May. "It's really fun for everyone on my team, and it's really fun to see the collection come together in that way with the stylists, casting directors, hair and makeup."
"It's only me running the business — I don't have a partner or anything," she added. "I handle all the different aspects, financial or anything else."
Though fashion people are sure to be forlorn without her show, she doesn't rely on fashion week for marketing. "The business has grown by word of mouth — it hasn't ever come from this media overload, 'You must buy this thing, a celebrity was wearing it, it's all over the internet,'" she also told BuzzFeed Fashion. "It's kind of been organic."
