E!'s Fashion Police came under a lot of criticism earlier this month after slating heavily-pregnant actress Elsa Pataky, Chris Hemsworth's wife, in a discussion of Oscars fashion highs and lows. Host Joan Rivers just couldn't get over how "huge" she looked, and George Kotsiopoulos said she had a "beer belly," which is just awful to begin with, not to mention that the implication she's been drinking while pregnant is really offensive. Meanwhile, Giuliana Rancic, an apparent friend of Elsa's, sat there in silence, as did Kelly Osbourne, who has spoken out frequently against body shaming in the past (at least when it's been directed at her).
Despite the blowback, Kotsiopoulos still thinks his comments were appropriate. He told reporters at an E! event in Sydney, Australia this week that, "I do stand by that because I didn't shame anyone's body." Um, yeah. "It's one thing to make comments about an overweight person or someone who can't do anything about their [weight]," he continued, inferring that a pregnant woman can do something about her figure (and yes, she can, it's called giving birth, though it mostly happens in its own good time). "But this is a beautiful and gorgeous woman who is very wealthy, she has Thor on her arm, she has access to the finest things in the world... You can get anything you want for the Oscars. So to choose that dress, which was not appropriate, was not right whether you're having twins or not. It was not flattering on her body. It's utterly inexcusable."
Also inexcusable: trolling pregnant ladies for ratings.
