When my good friend, Claiborne Swanson Frank, came up with the idea for her book, American Beauty, she probably didn't realize what an undertaking it would be. Shooting about 100 girls in the span of a few months is hard, but when all those women are prominent, hard-working types with busy travel schedules, it's jaw-dropping to think what Claiborne eventually pulled off.
American Beauty, the result of her hard work, is a collection of photographs of (you guessed it!) American beauties, women who, as Claiborne puts it, "redefine what it means to be a woman in America today." Subjects include entrepreneurs like Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer, actresses like Kick Kennedy, and environmentalists like Elettra Wiedemann. Oh, and then there's yours truly!
Anyway, American Beauty is a wonderful celebration of what it means to be a modern-day woman. (And, it should be noted that Claiborne's best friend, Genevieve Bahrenburg, who co-produced and wrote all of the text for the book, does a masterful job of underscoring this message). All in all, a beautiful book filled with beautiful people and a must-buy for all!
