New Designer Carrie Parry Makes a Fashionable (and Sustainable!) Debut

New Designer Carrie Parry Makes a Fashionable (and Sustainable!) Debut

Share

Carrie Parry's eponymous line is the definition of streamlined sophistication. Each piece from her AW11 collection is sleek, well-fitted, and decidedly unfussy. She makes clothing that looks good on and off the rack and you can feel good wearing her pieces because they are all produced ethically and in accordance with the UN Global Compact.

See, a Carrie Parry piece of clothing begins in the Indian Himalayas, where local artisanal women known as the Panchaculi Women Weavers create some of the textiles. There are about 800 women from 32 villages involved in the process and they all receive regular wages and shares in their textile production company.

The fabrics that are sourced include organic cotton, Tencel, and organic wool, and when dyes are used, they are low-impact. When the textiles reach the states, the clothing is produced locally in New York's garment district and then voila! a Carrie Parry piece is born! Below are some looks from her debut collection.
