After featuring Livia Firth on my May "Feel-Good Fashion" page for Marie Claire, she and I have kept in touch via email. We often chat about ethical brands we are liking and stores we should check out. She recently introduced me to the eco-evening wear line Karen Caldwell (which I’ve since shot twice!). So it was great to finally meet the eco-blogger and sustainable fashion pioneer in person — and, yes, she was just as sweet as you would imagine.
Livia was in town after attending the Met Costume Institute Gala — alongside Academy Award-winning hubby Colin Firth — where she wore the first-ever sustainable gown designed by Stella McCartney. The piece was embroidered with reclaimed vintage beads, and the skirt portion was made from Manila hemp, a fiber that requires very little water to harvest. The jumpsuit beneath the dress was made from 100-percent organic silk from Switzerland, and all her accessories were vegan.
Livia looked beautiful, and it is just one of the many sustainable gowns that she has worn on red carpets. In fact, she only wears green fashion on the red carpet, a feat which is highly impressive considering the somewhat limited market for sustainable black tie attire.
