Dance-spiration: Bibhu Mohapatra's Spring 2014 Show
Designer Bibhu Mohapatra was inspired by the freedom and expression of modern dance

There's nothing like a beautiful morning fashion show to make you feel a little more joyful, and when we chatted with designer Bibhu Mohapatra backstage this morning (a mere hour before showtime), we couldn't help but be inspired by his love for creating clothes. "Inspired by the freedom and movement of modern dance," Mohapatra sent out a collection of evening wear full of floor length gowns in blush pinks, icy blues, and vivid fuchsia; sequined and bejeweled pencil skirts and cocktail dresses; and silk pleated day dresses in floral prints. With the concept of dance in mind, fabrics included organza and tulle so that each step included a swirl of fabric. It was also the first time Mohapatra included florals as a print. "I kept remembering these beautiful red flowers that bloomed on a tree I used to see when I went on vacation as a child," he revealed to MarieClaire.com. And while donning an evening gown may not be in the cards for all of us, Mohapatra offered some words of advice. "I love a little evening wear as dayweara sequined skirt with a cotton top is so pretty." We couldn't agree more.
