How lucky are people who make a living from their hobbies? (Too bad you cant find a gig tasting chocolates.) Jewelry designer Amelia Lock dabbled in jewelry as a creative relief from her job as a corporate lawyer. Next thing she knew, she had orders from Bloomingdales. Once she garnered the courage to break the news to her family full of attorneys, her line, called
Amelia Rose, continued to blossom. With her black Lab Oscar to keep her company, Lock spends her days happily stringing semiprecious stones on gold vermeil and sterling silver chains, meeting with clients (which include Hollywood costume designers and a bevy of brides), and preparing for trunk shows. Her jewelry is colorful yet refined, delicate but not overly sweet: a sole garnet suspended from a chain studded with freshwater pearls; bezel-set white topaz drop earrings; wire-wrapped amethyst chandeliers. The same shapes and stones are repeated throughout the collection, which makes Amelia Rose a popular choice with wedding parties. As is the trend for bridesmaid dresses (a slightly different design for each woman), attendants can wear different designs using the same stones (or the same designs with different stones) to complement their dresses.
