Should You Get Botox?

To Botox or not? Before you make your appointment, ask yourself these questions:

1. Why are you getting the treatment?
A. I want a little pick-me-up.
B. My boyfriend/husband advised it.
C. My employer suggested it would give me job security, and, of course, I agree!

2. How do you expect to feel after?
A. High school reunion—ready.
B. Great ... until the next treatment.
C. On the fast track to a great new life.

3. On the big day, you could see yourself ...
A. Crying. I've been an emotional yo-yo.
B. Leafing through pamphlets to research new cellulite treatments.
C. Having trouble sitting still because I'm so excited.

IF YOU ANSWERED MOSTLY A'S:
You're healthily pumped up about your treatment. Big stressors—e.g., milestone birthdays—often prompt people to consider wrinkle-reducers, so it's normal to cry when you address these anxieties.

IF YOU ANSWERED MOSTLY B'S:
You need to explore why you want to change the way you look. An injection isn't going to fix more serious self-esteem issues. Be honest with your doc about your reasoning and see what she advises.

IF YOU ANSWERED MOSTLY C'S:
You might be too enthused about the procedure and your expectations. It's a personal decision to maintain a professional edge by looking younger, but it's a red flag (ageism is illegal!) if you think Botox will lead to big changes like a promotion.
