Big Girl in a Skinny World: 3 Necessary Outfits

Hello, Ladies,

I know it’s been a while, but life has been quite hectic these days! I promise to get back on track and posting regularly soon. Recently, I had a fabulous reader ask me a rather interesting question: “If you could only have three outfits to your name, what would they be?” Well, one thing I’ve learned is that three outfits can go a very long way, especially if you learn to mix and match the items. It did take me a few minutes to establish which outfits I really couldn’t live without, but here goes:

My first must-have outfit is anchored by a great pair of jeans. SVOBODA, a very curvy-friendly denim line, has a fantastic pair of Black Licorice Five Pocket Jeans. This pair of jeans will see you from day to night, and let’s face it, if you can only have three outfits, they’re a definite must. I’d pair these go-to jeans with a thick-strapped tank and a blazer. To finish the look off I’d add three thin necklaces and a watch. Outfit number one: complete!

For my second must-have look I would need to invest in a skirt. I, for one, am a huge fan of the classic pencil skirt, but one with draped detail can also work to mask some of the more common problem areas. I recently picked up Target’s Mossimo Women's Elastic Waist Skirt, and I’ve worn it out to a dinner and then again the next day with a tank and flats for shopping (I pulled an outfit repeat! Shhh, don’t tell!). This skirt goes up to XXL, and while that’s usually my size I had to downsize to a XL for the best fit. It comes in a variety of colors and prints. Pair this skirt with an embellished top for a dressy occasion or the tank from outfit number one for a more relaxed look. Oh, and don’t forget a pair of taller-than-tall pumps to elongate those legs!

Outfit number three has to be a dress. There is no look better suited for a night on the town! Saks carries one of my new favorites, the Amanda Uprichard, Salon Z Dynasty Silk Dress. It comes in a lovely midnight blue and is the kind of dress that will get you noticed for all the right reasons. It’s got a great deep-V neckline and a cinched waist to accentuate all the right areas. For a dressy night out, add a statement necklace and a pair of stilettos, or to dress it down a bit try a great stacked wedge and some bangles.

So there are my three must-have outfits! What are your thoughts? Tell me, what are the three outfits you can’t live without?

-Ashley
