Big Girl in a Skinny World: How to Wear Neutrals

Hello Ladies,

I’ve recently been on a mission to stock up on neutrals. The runways were dominated by them this season—grays, blush tones and beiges. And with spring quickly approaching, I can’t wait to mix and match them with the rest of my wardrobe. Best of all, it’s a trend that really complements curvy girls. While I know many big girls tend to shy away from lighter colors, fearing that they’ll add a good 15 or 20 pounds, I say go ahead and wear them. Still not convinced: ladies, nothing will draw more attention to your body than head-to-toe black in seventy-degree weather. In fact, I was recently looking at old pictures from a few springs ago and noticed that all my girl friends were wearing light, airy colors. Me? I looked a bit drab in a black summer dress. Since then, I’ve resolved to incorporate neutrals in my spring looks.

Forever 21’s plus size line Faith 21 has a few affordable and chic neutral pieces. I recently purchased their Sequin Racerback Tunic Tank in peach. I’ll pair it with a pair of khaki pants and an INC International Concepts Cropped Silk Motorcycle Jacket I recently bought at Macy’s. Another great piece from Faith 21 is the Grommet Studded Pullover in gray, perfect for pairing with a great pair of light wash jeans. Evans, one of the UK’s most well-know plus-size online destinations, has a must-have pair of Grey Ruched Hem Trousers. A very chic option that can be easily be matched with a variety of tops. ASOS, another one of my favorite plus-size retailers, carries a Curve Pleat Waist Dress in gray. The dress is cinched at the waist and extremely flattering. How do you feel about the neutral trend? Have you picked up any neutrals? Let me know how you’ll be combining them with your looks.
