Big Girl in a Skinny World: Favorite Oscar Fashion

Hello Ladies,

Last night, I was glued to the couch with a friend having our very own session of Oscar Fashion Police. I, for one, love awards season, and have always joked about having an Oscar party, replete with my very own red carpet included, movie themed cocktails and black tie only attire. As usual, the Oscars are really all about who’s wearing what, and this year, the dresses varied from stunning to questionable.

While most of the presenters and nominees were wisps of women, several gowns would no doubt be form-flattering for those well above a Hollywood size 2. Silhouette-wise, Anna Kendrick’s pale pink dress would be a very elegant choice on a curvy gal. The draping would really help to camouflage any bumps or bulges; the off-the-shoulder straps would help to elongate the neckline and slightly mask bulky arms (a common problem spot for big girls). Another winner: Queen Latifah. Her stunning pale pink dress perfectly complemented her curves thanks to the intricate beading on her waist and straps.

Another full-figured girl who wowed on the red carpet was Gabourey Sidibe. Her ruched blue dress, by Marchesa, camouflaged the body in all the right places. Interestingly, Mo’nique’s dress was, in effect, of a similar vein—ruched blue. The dress fit well, but lacked a bit of red carpet allure. Some other red carpet favorites were: Vera Farmiga in a stunning ruffled number, Kristen Stewart in a strapless navy gown, and Tina Fey in an embellished one-shouldered Michael Kors number. Overall the ladies looked lovely and the night was memorable. Which were your favorite looks? Let me know, I would love to hear from you!
