It's day two of New York Fashion Week, and my feet are falling off already! Temperatures have warmed up slightly post-blizzard, which is great because my body temperature is still set to "Miami."
Today my first stop was Christian Siriano (yes, the totally fierce Project Runway protégé). The tent was swarming with hardcore fashionistas in Lady Gaga-like attire—think gold lamé, eccentric chapeaux, and lots of statement eye makeup. Pre-show, photographers crowded the runway as they tried to get their shot of Kanye's main squeeze, Amber Rose, sitting front and center. The show itself was a mix of coats and evening dresses: a wearable collection, to be sure, but it lacked a bit of Mr. Siriano's usual X factor. The color palette was dark and demure: lots of black (in different textures), burgundy, and blue. And ladies, news you can use: The collection was filled with ruffles and draping. It seems to be we'll be in luck come Fall 2010. One dress was particularly amazing: a dark gunmetal gray with a chiffon drape that would look stunning while secretly masking a post-dinner gut.
A strong suit of Siriano's is outerwear: I was impressed by the chicly-tailored coats and jackets he showed. If a plus-size gal could get a coat with that kind of workmanship, she'd easily look ten pounds lighter. Don't let that "if" worry you, though: I promise you I will be on the hunt for an amazing winter coat the minute they hit stores. Overall, the collection was very pretty, and most styles would look great in anyone's closet.
Well, ladies, I hate to cut it short, but I'm late for my next show! I'm heading over to Nicole Miller and then to Charlotte Ronson. Check in tomorrow for updates on more shows, and be sure to follow @MarieClaire on Twitter for live updates from the runways.
