Spring Makeup Guide: Mint and Tangerine

Spring Makeup Guide: Mint and Tangerine

As a self-proclaimed beauty guru, it makes sense that my favorite part of fashion week is the makeup. But it's not just the fierce eyeliner shapes or the perfect deep berry lip that gets me going. No, it's the trends that are born right in front of my eyes and take form on the most gorgeous models in the world.

This season, my top runway trend — seen at Marc Jacobs, Jill Stuart, Chanel, and DVF — is the use of big, bold colors, particularly tangerine and mint.

While it might be easy to pull off eye-popping skinnies, conquering these trends the beauty way is more difficult, especially for those who are shy about brights. To rock mint and tangerine this spring, test out some of my favorite products, each of which is wearable enough for beginners yet supplies enough pop for the color-experienced.

Make a statement with rich pigment and super-smooth texture using Illamasqua's Powder Eye Shadow in Pivot ($20). This can be worn as a flush of color across the lid, or applied as a liner close to the lash line with a damp, angled brush.

Packed with hydrating and protective ingredients like shea butter, jojoba seed oil, and vitamins A and E, NP Set's Luscious Lip Shine in Honolulu ($15) adds just enough tangerine pop, and packs ultra-shine for a serious plumping effect.

I love this NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Cleo ($34) because it allows you to play with degrees of this colorful trend. For just a touch of mint, apply the lightest shade to the inner corners of eyes. If you prefer a more daring look, wing out the darker color from the outer corners of your lids.

A bold tangerine lip is among my favorite looks. L'Oreal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Coral Seduction ($10) features a patented polymer that promises long-wear, and is ultra-conditioning thanks to vitamin E and Ceramide 5. There are no surprises with this lipstick — it appears identical to the color you see in the tube.

Include your nails in the fun by swiping on NailEZEE Key Lime Pie or Tutu Tango Mango ($10 each). If you're feeling bold, wear 'em both at the same time by using one as your accent color.
