Style Essentials for the College Girl
Getting ready for college means more than just buying a hoodie with your university's logo stamped across it.

Fall makes us think of school books, football games and fashion week. For college students, it means meeting roommates, picking classes and finding the right pieces to add for a more collegiate-ready closet. Here are some of the style essentials we think are must-haves for campus life.
Great jeans: A perfectly fitting jean is a staple piece for co-eds who are busy juggling lectures, mixers, and game days. Pair them with a cotton tee for class and spruce them up with a sparkly top for date night.
Ballet flats: The right shoe can make an outfit and can make achy feet adore you. Ballet flats are ideal for cross campus errands and they come in plenty of colors and textures for multiple looks.
Perfect white button down: Tucked in, tied at the waist, or hanging loose, the white button down is a staple for any closet. Dress it up with a pencil skirt or layer it over a tank on a brisk day--any way you wear it you're bound to look and feel polished.
A sundress: Whether you're off to a seminar, a lunch date with friends, or tailgating before a game, the sundress is the easiest way to feel comfortable and look cute without having to change. Paired with pearls and a floppy hat, or stacked-up bangles and peeptoe pumps you're good to go!
Trench coat: Burberry made them famous and now trench coats are a wardrobe must-have. Elegant, impermeable, and versatile, trenches are the most practical coats with which to face the elements in style.
Oversize tote: Gone are the days of monogrammed backpacks. Oversize totes are essential for schlepping books, spirals, pens, lipgloss, gym gear, water bottle, snack, wallet, laptop, iPad, iPod, cellphone, dorm keys around campus.
Rain boots: Given the unpredictability of precipitation lately (Hurricanes in New York? Snowstorms in Texas?), rain boots are just necessary. Period.
Heels: Flats are cute, but heels, if impractical, are sexy. And important for the college girl who needs to transition her day look into night. Swap flats for heels to add height and boldness.
Cardigans: The cardigan is a girl's best style friend. Like jeans, they're totally versatile--layered over a cami in a cold classroom, unbuttoned over a sundress at brunch, or draped over your arm just in case--and add a pop of color to any ensemble.
Yummy bathrobe: When you don't want to go all the way to the library to read Anna Karenina, when you've just hopped out of the shower and don't know what to wear, when you're lounging in your dorm thumbing through a magazine, a yummy bathrobe is heaven--silk, terrycloth, or fleece.
Classic sheath dress: A lovely sheath dress is great for interviews with college advisors, potential employers, and the boyfriend's parents. The dress' silhouette is very flattering and quite classy.
Accessories: Add a printed scarf, sleek sunglasses, statement necklace, or cocktail ring to any outfit for an extra touch of chic.
