Q: How can I get rid of my mustache? The only thing I can think of is shaving it off. Do models shave their faces? Their skin always looks so smooth!
A: Models do not shave their faces and you shouldn't either. Face shaving is such a masculine act that it can be psychologically confusing to do as a woman. If you feel like you have excess hair on your face, try waxing, plucking, using depilatories, or laser hair removal. You can also ask your doctor for Vaniqa, a prescription cream that slows hair growth in about four to six weeks. But you shouldn't obsess over a little peach fuzz. I've definitely seen my share of it on models' faces. The reason you haven't is because facial hair is pretty much always retouched out of photos.
Another solution for a small area like your upper lip is laser or IPL hair removal. It's obviously more costly upfront (up to approximately $1400), but it's a great investment in the long run. Ask your dermatologist if he or she performs it, and if not, ask for a referral for someone who does. Many "medi-spas" offer it, but check that a doctor is on-site in case any complications occur. And before you commit, ask to see patient photos and look for someone with a similar skin tone to you, as certain skin tones are more difficult to treat.
