"There's always a sense of pretty to Behnaz's collections," said Luc Bouchard, MAC's lead makeup artist backstage at the Desmond Tutu Center in Chelsea. "It's never weird, unusual, or masculine. This look is almost hippy and pure — it's inspired by the girl who leaves New York for a vacation in India."
Bouchard kept the focus of the face on the eyes with a light gold eyeshadow on the lids and white liner on the inner rim of the lower lash lines. The skin is "outdoorsy and natural," and a "lipstick-lip-gloss hybrid" gives the pout just enough color and shine.
Kérastase's lead hairstylist, Ashley Javier, wanted to create an updo that was more inspirational than DIY. "So many styles are created for women to do at home, but I wanted this to be special — something that you would see in a magazine and take the photo to your hairstylist to re-create," he said. The key to achieving this look — Kérastase's Elixir Ultime (launching this November). The maize, argan, and camellia oil formula is silicone-free, so it adds volume and shine without causing gunky buildup. Javier coated hair with the serum before creating the S-braid updo.
And for the real-life jet-setter? Javier insists that a French braid like this — when properly executed — could be the ideal vacation-ready style. "It should last for up to one week, so women with frizzy hair can get it done before a trip to somewhere humid and not have to worry about their hair for days," he explained.
Roxanne Valinoti created the Halo Manicure with CND's Perfectly Bare Colour (coming out in March) layered over the Silver Chrome shade (currently available). The edges of the nude shade were rubbed off, leaving a ragged silver border on the nail. "This was an ethereal take of the idea of gardening and having dirt stuck under you nails," said Valinoti.
