How To Shrink Large Pores
Q: How can I make my pores look smaller?
A:
Large pores are caused by two things: genetics and age, says Harold Lancer, M.D., an L.A.-based Dr. Lancer recommends using a low-strength topical retinol or vitamin C product. Both of these are antioxidants that work to increase collagen and elastin production to give your skin a smoother appearance. Try either The Body Shop Vitamin C Super Charged Serum or Neutrogena Pore Refining Cream. Dr. Lancer also suggests going to a dermatologist or a spa to get microdermabrasion treatments, a type of facial that gently sloughs off the dead surface layer of skin. It will also help the antioxidant creams to penetrate the skin more quickly.
Concealing large pores with makeup is also an option. Start by applying a foundation primer, a product that evens out skin tone and prevents foundation from sinking into pores, suggests New York makeup artist Paula Dorf. When it dries, apply your foundation. Cream or cream-to-powder formulas work better than liquid foundations, which can soak into the pores, making them even more obvious. As a final step, use a brush to apply a light dusting of loose powder. Products to try: Paula Dorf Perfect Primer, Oil of Olay Complete Radiance Foundation and Calvin Klein Loose Powder.
